How many alarms does your home need?

You do not need to rewire the house. We work with what is already there and add what is missing.
Your hardwired alarms
Replaced with new hardwired models in the same positions. The regulations require a hardwired alarm to be replaced by another hardwired alarm.
Anywhere one is missing
New alarms, usually in bedrooms, are wireless models. No new cabling and no patching walls. They interconnect with the hardwired ones so every alarm sounds together.
The price does not change
It is $89 per alarm either way. Replacing a hardwired alarm costs the same as fitting a new wireless one, because our electricians are on site doing both in the one visit.

Questions homeowners ask
Does this apply to owner-occupied homes, or only rentals?
It applies to every Queensland home from 1 January 2027, including owner-occupied ones. Rental properties and homes being sold have been under these rules since 2022 — this final stage is the one that covers owner occupiers. It covers houses, townhouses and units, and registered caravans and motorhomes need a photoelectric alarm too.
How many alarms will my place need?
For most homes it is one per bedroom, one per storey, plus one more for the hallway, study or separated bedroom area. A single-storey three-bedroom home usually needs five; a four-bedroom home usually needs six. An office or study normally counts as a bedroom unless the room could not be used as one.
Smaller places do not need that extra alarm, because there is no hallway connecting bedrooms — a studio needs one and a one-bedroom home needs two. Use the calculator above for your own bedroom and storey count.
Can you work with the hardwired alarms I already have?
Yes, and you do not need to rewire the house. Existing hardwired alarms are replaced with new hardwired models in the same positions, because the regulations require a hardwired alarm to be replaced by another hardwired one. Anywhere an alarm is missing, we fit a wireless model that interconnects with the rest.
The price is the same either way — $89 per alarm — because our electricians do both in the one visit.
What brand are the alarms?
You can choose our own Detector Inspector alarms at $89 each, or PSA alarms at $149 each. Both are photoelectric and compliant with AS 3786:2014.
Our own alarms come from the same factory and use the same components as higher-priced branded equivalents. We service over 320,000 properties a year, so we buy in volume, and that is why they cost less.

Is there a pensioner rate or a government subsidy?
We do not run a separate pensioner rate — $89 per alarm is the same price for everyone. Queensland does run home assistance programs for older residents and concession card holders, so it is worth checking whether you qualify for help with the cost.

What happens if the technician finds we need more alarms?
Your technician talks you through it before doing any extra work, so nothing is added to the bill without you agreeing to it first. Where asbestos is identified, magnetic fixings are used and an additional $100 applies.
What is the warranty?
PSA alarms carry a 10-year product warranty. Detector Inspector alarms carry a 3-year product warranty, or a 10-year service warranty if you subscribe to our smoke alarm service for $129 (incl. GST) per year.
That service covers annual safety and decibel checks, replacement of faulty or expired alarms, free call outs for alarm faults, 9V battery replacement, and access to our support line.

Yes. We offer accelerated installation for owners who need compliance certification before settlement. Each interconnected alarm is $129 (incl. GST) for accelerated jobs and a 50% deposit is required upfront. A smoke alarm controller is available for $36.30 (incl. GST).
